About Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek- 13 Days

Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek is one of the most popular treks in the Everest region alongside Gokyo Trek and Everest Base Camp Trek.

This trek weaves through the famous Buddhist villages and monasteries of the Sherpa people while affording unparalleled views of some of the world’s highest peaks. The highlights of this trip are the days spent trekking above Namche Bazaar. Here we get beyond the established trails beneath the awesome flanks of Ama Dablam. The Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek begins with a short flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and then continues through Phakding along the Dudh Koshi river. This route takes you through the settlement of the Sherpa indigenous community, passing through Tyangboche and you finally reach Ama Dablam Base Camp (4,650 m). From the Base Camp, you will have , superb views of the range of mountains including Mt. Everest. From here, you will return back through Pangboche, Khumjung, Phakding and finally returning to Lukla and for a flight back to Kathmandu. Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek is one of the most popular treks in the Everest region alongside Gokyo Trek and Everest Base Camp Trek.

A further dimension to our trek is a visit to the Sherpa villages of Khunde and Khumjung where we visit some of Sir Edmund Hillary’s projects established through the Himalayan Trust.

Patan and Bhaktapur, the two important neighboring cities bear much cultural and religious significance to Nepal’s landscape. Namche is an ideal place to spend a day for rest to acclimatize with the higher altitudes before heading off towards Khumjung. To prepare you for the tough climbing in the days ahead, you can spend the day taking a day walk hike to Khunde hospital which was set-up by Sir Edmund Hillary or you can take a one hour walk up to the Syangboche (3800m.) where Everest View Hotel is situated above Namche for the outstanding views of the Everest Mountain range. Ama Dablam means “Mother’s necklace” in Nepali. The long ridges on each side are like the arms of a mother (Ama) protecting her child, and the hanging glacier is thought of as the Dablam, the traditional double-pendant containing pictures of the gods, worn by Sherpa women. We will have lunch in the Base Camp while we soak in the views before walking back to Pangboche along the main trail in the afternoon. A lot of up and down on this trail, with another crossing of the Imja Khola on a steel suspension bridge. Stay overnight in Pangboche. (B, L, D)
